Dead to Sin

In Daily Devotional by Marc Brûlé

Theme of the Week: Living Out the Victory

Bible Verse: So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Romans 6:11 ESV

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:2; Proverbs 27:19, Romans 6:11

Have you ever looked in the mirror beyond grooming? Have you just looked at yourself in the eye? I find it a bit unnerving — kinda weird. The mirror reflects the face. Your thinking reflects you – “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.” (Prov 27:19)

There is much talk and tension over holding what we call a biblical worldview. Your worldview defines how you see reality — what is true and what is not. It shapes how you see God, the world, and yourself.

Holding a biblical worldview is key to living a victorious life in Christ. Most importantly, holding a biblical self-view is what will shape your values, your attitudes, and your behavior.

This is where renewing the mind comes in. It is God’s word — the Bible, that must shape our thinking. This is how we know God’s will. This is how we know the victory we have through Jesus. This is how we protect ourselves from the lies of the world.

One of the primary ‘reflections’ we need in our hearts is to realize that we are no longer slaves to sin. We are told to consider ourselves dead to sin — that sin has no hold on us. The next time you face temptation, consider this truth — you are alive to God, you respond to Him and not to sin.
