Theme of the Week: Your Mind
Bible Verse: “But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4, ESV
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 55:6-11
This past week we started by exploring the idea that we need to engage our minds with God in addition to loving God with our hearts. Though the Bible is God’s primary means to renew our minds, Bible reading is not merely reading a book.
Bible reading really means meeting up with the living God:
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
The Holy Spirit guides us as we meet with God in His word:
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13
We need the Bible in the spiritual battle for our minds:
“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15
The Bible is God’s chief instrument to tell us about Himself:
“And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” Luke 24:27
God’s word works in us, shaping our thoughts, plans, and purposes:
“And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13
The Bible compels us to take action for God in our world:
“But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.” Luke 8:15
I thank God that he speaks to us through his word. May we allow our minds to interact with his word daily and be transformed by it.
