Zombieland Recap

In Daily Devotional by Bayne Leong

Theme of the Week: Zombieland

Bible Verse: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10, ESV

Scripture Reading: John 10:7-15

This past week we explored the idea of how sometimes we don’t live the full life intended for us, as originally set before Adam and Eve and then restored to us through Jesus’ work. We used the theme of zombies to illustrate various forms of deadness, in contrast to the vibrant life and purpose which Jesus offers us.

Humanity has fallen so far away from God – are we even trying to make our way back to him?
“From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” Acts 17:26-27

God calls us to a higher life than just merely existing like animals.
“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honour.” Psalm 8:4-5

Remember Jesus day in and day out. Do not forget him so easily.
“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel” 2 Timothy 2:8

Despite outside pressures all around you, keep following hard after God no matter what.
“But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.” Numbers 14:24

Fight for the life in Christ the Lord has given you.
“After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’” Nehemiah 4:14

Following Jesus may not always be easy, but it is the way to life – both in this age and in the one to come.
