As For You

Theme of the Week: Mission Possible

Bible Verse: “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:5 ESV

What means more? The first time you hear I love you or the last time….both are memorable, but doesn’t the last one mean the most? Something about the last words are lasting words.

Let’s look at some of Paul’s last words. Paul writes with fatherly advice in his two letters to his spiritual son Timothy, prescribing a way forward, for Timothy then and us now:

2 Timothy 4:5 – “As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

The first three words are important. “As for you…” other people are going may do different things; they may make different choices; they may have different standards . . [but] as for you . . . your mission if you choose to accept it is this . . . always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Let’s walk together through what that means and how we live it out and grow every day!

It’s not mission impossible…reserved for secret agents and elite Christians. It’s for all of us. And yes, you and I can do it. Let’s say yes to this mission Paul lays out for us!

Prayer: Father, I know that what you have called me to, the character and quality of life that you have asked me to pursue, your Spirit will strengthen me for. Help me to understand the goal you have put before me and to rely on your Spirit for the strength and endurance to get there.

Reflect: Sometimes the words of Scripture are astounding. God calls us to live toward his standard. What are your biggest obstacles to living into a life that God has called you too?
