Reminder of Reward

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Theme of the Week: Mission Possible

Bible Verse: “Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:8 ESV

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4:5-8, Colossians 3:23-24

These devotionals have been challenging for me, even to write. I wonder if your head is spinning a bit, wondering how to process all the things Paul mentions. Maybe you’re even wondering if it’s worth all the effort.

It is. Start small. Mission Possible is about taking the small steps to help us grow in our journey, not trying to get to the end all at once.

Is it worth it? Absolutely! Look at today’s verse. There’s a huge reward for faithfulness to God, and Paul fixed his eyes on that prize. We are not working for earthly treasures, but for eternal rewards. Like that great hymn says, “when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”

“As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” 2 Timothy 4:5 (ESV).

If we can keep these things in the forefront of our thinking, living, and serving, we will set ourselves up well to receive the reward for faithfulness to God!

Prayer: God, help me to think and live with heaven in mind. Help me not to be distracted with the temporary things of life, but rather, the eternal ones.

Reflect: Why are we so easily distracted with worldly treasures? What’s the solution to that problem?
