Crokicurl

Can you imagine a winter activity that is more Canadian than hockey? I have just the thing.

Crokicurl is an outdoor game that combines the sport of curling with the board game crokinole. The playing surface is an eight-sided sheet of ice with a bullseye in the middle. Players try to get their curling rocks close to the center, and prevent their opponents from doing the same. But you have to be careful. A ring of pegs prevents some straight shots and guarantees that there will be some entertaining ricochets and bounces during the game.

Since its introduction at The Forks in Winnipeg in 2017, Crokicurl has spread to other Canadian cities and towns. Check out the Public City Architecture web site for detailed game rules and downloadable plans to make your own Crokicurl rink.

ColdSnap Ice Cream Pods

It started with coffee. Traditional coffee makers were pushed aside in favour of single-cup Keurig and Nespresso machines. Why brew a pot when you can make one fresh, perfect cup? All you need is a special machine and a supply of coffee pods or capsules.

Next came the Soda Stream. Stop buying pop and make your own fizzy drinks at home for just pennies a glass! All you need is a special machine, syrups, and a constant supply of CO2 canisters to provide the fizz.

Suddenly, pods were everywhere. Even Tide detergent got in on the action. But that was just the beginning.

Drumroll please!… The next big thing in pods will be… ice cream!

Introducing ColdSnap – a “rapid freezing appliance” that makes single serve frozen treats. Drop in a ColdSnap pod, press a button, and wait for just a minute or two. ColdSnap freezes and dispenses the contents of the pod to produce ice cream, frozen yogurt, iced coffee, smoothies, slushies, or frozen cocktails. There’s no preparation or cleanup. ColdSnap will be ready and waiting on your kitchen counter whenever you want an instant brain freeze.

ColdSnap was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January and is expected to hit the market later this year. Price is To Be Announced.
