Theme of the Week: All Things New: New Passions and Goals
Bible Verse: ‘For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.’ Philippians 2:13, NIV
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-13
For some of us, it has been so long since we have dreamed and chased desires that we don’t even know how to identify them anymore. Are they even from God?
Here are a few things to think about to help direct you in this area of your life.
Passion – What are you passionate about? I’m not asking what you do for a living or what your responsibilities are. I’m asking, what is that intense, burning and driving feeling you can’t seem to avoid or go without? What do you love to do, and when you are doing it, it seems like you lose track of time? Your passion is something that’s uniquely wired within you.
Skills and Talents – What skills and talents do you have? In other words, what are you actually good at? I believe this connects to discovering our desires. Is there something you know you’re better at doing than the average person? Is there something you know is a gift from God because it seems to come a little more natural to you than it does to others? Over the years, you have developed skills and talents through education and experience, which gives you the ability to actually do something with these passions and desires you have.
Motivation – What motivates you in life? I heard one pastor put it this way; What breaks your heart in this world? When you look around at your family, school, church, work or even your own town, what do you see that isn’t right and needs to change? That might be your motivation to put your passion and skills into action.
Take a few minutes to write these three things down. I truly believe your answers deeply connect with God’s will and desires for you right now because no one else will have the same three answers as you.
