Eyelashes…Who Knew?!

In Daily Devotional by Brad Klassen

Theme of the Week: Raising Godly Kids

Bible Verse: For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:4-5

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-31

Have you ever had something in your eye?

Even the smallest speck is painful, but it makes me thankful for my eyelashes. Imagine how much junk would be in our eyes if we didn’t have our eyelashes. And yet, when was the last time you truly noticed this small part of your body?

Your kids are awesome!

I have never met them. But I have met the One who created them. And He made them awesome. As dads, we probably need to see this more often.

And here’s the coolest part: God gave them gifts too! Gifts of encouragement, discernment, joy, singing, serving, and so much more!

And guess where He wants them to use their gifts. Everywhere, but particularly in the church!

So that means you have a task to do for Jesus. Get your family involved in your local church.

Maybe you already are attending a good church. Great! But I didn’t say “attend.” I said, “Get involved.”

There is a big difference.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul writes about how the church is the body of Christ and we all have an important part to play. What’s cool is that he never once puts an age where the gifts of God start! He just simply says, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

That means the Holy Spirit who gives you your gifts is the same Holy Spirit who gives your kids their gifts!

The Church is the body of Christ. And His body needs hands and feet, eyes and ears, and yes, even eyelashes.

So, find ways to volunteer as a family. Join the children’s ministry. Move chairs. Operate cameras. Maybe there is a place in the church’s kitchen for you. Whatever it is, serve. Teach your kids that serving in the church is a vital piece of experiencing a life with Jesus.

Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for the gifts you have given my kids. Show me how you want them to use them in Your church. Amen.

Reflection: Read 1 Corinthians 12:1-31 and see how God has gifted your kids and get involved.
