God Calls Us

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Theme of the Week: God’s Plan in Four Verbs

Bible Verse: He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants – God’s own people, Israel. He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands. Psalm 78:70-72 NLT (emphasis added)

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:28, 2 Peter 1:10-11
As we talked about yesterday, David was the only brother not invited to the impromptu visit from Samuel. Samuel the Prophet was being led by God to find the next king. But David’s dad couldn’t see him as a potential candidate for king, so David wasn’t invited. We know man looks on the outside, but God sees what’s on the inside.

Being overlooked can be hurtful. We have all felt that way at times. When we are not acknowledged or appreciated, it’s easy to feel invisible. It’s not fun at all.

I love this verse because it shows that God didn’t overlook David, and it reminds us that God won’t overlook us.

God knew exactly where David was the whole time. God has not forgotten about you or the promises He has given you. He is faithful to complete that which He has started in your life.

Sometimes we think we need to push open our own doors of opportunity. But we see in the life of David that if you remain faithful in the sheep pens, and some may overlook you, God still sees, and He makes a way.

God chose you, knows exactly where you are, and is calling you again today. He’s asking you to follow His leading for your life. Take some time today to thank God for choosing you and calling you.

Then, take some time to reflect on where you are at with your relationship with Him and see if He is speaking to you about making some adjustments to your life.
