Theme of the Week: God’s Promises for All Times
Bible Verse: As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. Psalm 17:15
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:1-18
The anthem of the ’60s expressed by the classic song by The Rolling Stones (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, has most certainly summed up the expression of all ages. We all long for a deeper satisfaction that no one seems to grasp.
The word “glory” in the Bible comes from the word “weighty,” or “heavy”. Whenever the glory of God was manifested, it would take the whole space and crush everything and anything under it. No room left.
Have you ever considered the glory God has for His people as something that will fill up the whole room and satisfy everything completely? C.H. Spurgeon reminds us of this in his book, The Promise of God:
People of the world have their treasure in this world, but people of the world to come look higher and further. Our possession is twofold. We have God’s presence here and his likeness to come.
Here we look on the face of the Lord in righteousness, for we are justified in Christ Jesus. Oh, the joy of looking on the face of a reconciled God! The glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ produces for us heaven below, and it will be the heaven of heavens for us above. But seeing does not complete it. For we are to be changed into that which we gaze upon (1 John 3:2).
We will sleep for a while and then wake up to find ourselves like mirrors that reflect the beauties of our Lord. Faith sees God with a transforming look (2 Cor. 3:18). The heart receives the image of Jesus into its own depths, until the character of Jesus is imprinted on the soul.
This is satisfaction. To see God and to be like him—what more can I desire? David’s assured confidence is here by the Holy Spirit made to be the Lord’s promise. I believe it. I expect it.
