Theme of the Week: How The Impossible Happened
Bible Verse: “Is anything impossible for the Lord? At the appointed time, I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.” Genesis 18:14, CSB
Scripture Reading: John 3:1-21
If there is one thing that God has taught us throughout history, it is that nothing is impossible… to him. The Lord said it himself when he visited Abraham and announced that Sarah would have a child: “Is anything impossible for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14, CSB)
Sarah was promised a miraculous gift, but the thought of giving birth at her age was enough to make her laugh. She probably told herself, “Some things are definitely not possible.”
Well, she was wrong, as absolutely nothing is impossible for God. He can make a barren old woman bear a child, and he can do things even harder than this. What would Sarah have thought if she knew that someday a young girl named Mary, who had never known a man, would be covered with the power of God so that the Savior of humanity could be born into the world?
And what would you have thought if you were in Mary’s place? We’ll never know for sure, but we know this:
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, CSB)
God loves us so much that he will do the impossible for our good. May this very thought fill your heart as you share with friends and family a season of joy, peace and laughter made possible by God’s miraculous and greatest gift to us: Jesus.
