No Sex in Heaven?!

In Daily Devotional by Darryl Dash

Bible Verse: “For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven.” (Matthew 22:30)

Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:23-33

I love my wife. I’m a little disappointed I won’t be married to her in Heaven.

If you’re married, your marriage will end at death. That means your marriage is temporary. Along with marriage, it seems that we won’t have sex on the new earth either.

A little disappointing for most men, except for two things.

First, whatever we experience on the new earth will be even better than current sex and marriage. There actually will be one marriage in heaven: Christ will be married to His Bride, the Church (Revelation 21:2).

“We know the sexual life; we do not know, except in glimpses, the other thing which, in Heaven, will leave no room for it,” said C.S. Lewis.[1] Whatever we experience on the new earth will be even better than sex.

Second, we shouldn’t assume that we will have less intimacy. In fact, we may have more. Rather than having exclusive intimacy with our wives, we’ll have deep, relational unity (although not sexual) with everyone we meet.

Most of all, we’ll enjoy the relationship we were made for: deep friendship with Jesus Himself.

However great sex may be, it’s just a pointer to any even greater joy that we’ll get to enjoy one day.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that we’ll all get to enjoy something even better than marriage and sex. Amen.

Reflection: How do you feel about no sex in heaven?
