What Won’t Be in Heaven

In Daily Devotional by Darryl Dash

Bible Verse: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 60:19-20

The Bible gives us a list of things that won’t be in Heaven (or the new earth). There won’t be any sea (Revelation 21:1). In the Bible, the sea represents danger and chaos (e.g. Genesis 6-7; Psalm 30:1; 69:1-3; etc.). We won’t have to worry about dangerous things that threaten us or our wives and kids. We’ll finally be safe from danger.

There also won’t be a temple to meet with God because we’ll have direct access to God, and there won’t be any need for the sun or moon because God Himself will be the light (Revelation 21:22-23). God’s glory will outshine the sun and the moon.

There won’t be mourning, crying, or pain. As guys, we don’t always know how to express our pain, but it won’t matter then because there won’t be any pain to express.

There also won’t be any evildoers (Revelation 21:27). The only ones in Heaven will be those who’ve trusted Christ and are clothed with His righteousness. Everyone else will experience judgment away from the presence of His glory (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).

There’s one thing missing that we may want to be there (hint: sex), but we’ll get to that tomorrow.

Everything bad in this life will be completely banished when God remakes this world.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You will eradicate pain and evil. Amen.

Reflection: What are you glad won’t be on the new earth?
