Theme of the Week: Change Beyond Resolutions

Bible Verses: “We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at, the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

“For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

I have a love-hate relationship with the New Year. I love the opportunity to look at the past and set a new direction, but I often fail at making the right changes in my life.

But we shouldn’t be discouraged.

Here’s what we learned from 2 Corinthians 3:18 and Philippians 2:12-13:

  • The Spirit promises that he will transform us. It may take place slowly, but he always gets the job done.
  • We change as Jesus becomes bigger in our lives. Taking in who Jesus is and what he’s done for us is the key to transformation. It’s better than making resolutions.
  • We change as we live out the transformation that Jesus has already made inside us. We don’t have to create change; we just have to live out the change that Jesus has already made inside of us.
  • We’re never alone, because it’s God who is behind all the positive change in our lives. He transforms both our desires and our actions.

Here’s the bottom line: To change in 2022, keep pursuing Jesus. Dig into his Word. Show up at church. Pray. Ask for more of Jesus.

Believe what the Bible says is true about Jesus, and what it says is true about your new identity. Live out that identity even when it’s hard.

It will take time, but make no mistake: the Spirit will change you from the inside out. The Spirit always finishes what he starts, and he does very good work.
