Theme of the Week: Rebuilding Intimacy
Bible Verse: And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37 ESV
Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:34-40
When Jesus was asked, “What is the greatest commandment?” He replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:36)
There is no love without intimacy, and no intimacy without love. The greatest form of love AND intimacy you will ever experience in this life is with Jesus himself.
I will be honest: intimacy with God was a struggle of mine for a long time. I would hear stories of people who had incredibly deep and intimate times with God, and I didn’t get it. It was all too “touchy feely” for me.
That was until a mentor asked me how much I cared about my relationship with Jesus.
“I care DEEPLY about it. How could you ask me that?!”
“Then why are you so afraid of intimacy with Him?”
I was speechless. Totally stuck in hypocrisy. I wanted a deep relationship with Jesus, yet I was resisting the very thing that was required to experience it – intimacy.
The good news for you today is that the finished work of Christ on the cross has made it easy to experience intimacy with Him.
Do you have a conflict in your life? He is there, ready to listen.
Have a financial concern? Talk to him about it.
Feeling the shame of sexual sin? He’s already forgiven you, let Him hear about your experience.
It doesn’t have to be complex, but it must be done. Take a moment now and give it a shot. Tell Him what’s going on in your heart and then give a bit of time after to let God respond.
Real intimacy starts with Jesus.
