Bible Passage: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 ESV)
Scripture Reading: John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:15-20
When we think about the Gospel, most of us start with what it does for us: salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life. While this is crucial, this week we want to delve even deeper into what the fullness of God’s Good News entails.
Before the Gospel changes us, it reveals something deeper: who God truly is.
The Good News begins with a Person—Jesus Christ—who is “the image of the invisible God,” as Colossians 1:15 says. He is not a messenger about God. He is God, clothed in flesh, and has dwelt among us in real history.
From His first cry as a baby in Bethlehem to His final cry from the Cross, Jesus was the full revelation of God the Father’s heart. Christ showed compassion to the broken, mercy to sinners, and love to the undeserving. He healed the sick and welcomed the outcasts. He spoke with divine truth and authority, yet did so with tenderness.
Everything about His life, death, and resurrection pulls back the curtain on what God is like: He is holy, and yet gracious; just, and yet merciful.
When we read the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we’re witnessing God walk among us and seeing how we should act through the example of Jesus. Every act of kindness and every tear Christ shed shows that our Creator is not distant or detached from us. He entered our sin-stained world to redeem it. And He endured our pain and suffering with us and for us.
The Gospel tells and shows us that God is not against us, but for us.
This is where a man’s transformation begins. The more clearly we see who God is, the more we learn to trust Him. The more we read about how Jesus interacted with us, the more we realize that the heart of God has always been to rescue us, not to reject. His love and mercy flow from His very nature.
If you’ve ever wondered what God is really like, you don’t need to search far. Look to Jesus. Look to the Cross. Look to the empty tomb. There, in blood and glory, the heart of God is fully revealed in this Gospel.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me what God is truly like. Thank You for drawing near, for stepping into my world, and for revealing the Father’s heart of mercy and grace. Help me see You more clearly each day and reflect Your love to others. Amen.
Reflection: How does seeing the heart of God in Jesus change the way you relate to God today?
