Theme of the Week: Real Men Love, Cherish and Value All Women

Bible Verse: “Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker partner, showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.” 1 Peter 3:7

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:1-7

1 Peter 3:7 sets off alarm bells. Wives are the weaker partner? This verse seems demeaning to women at first glance.

Actually, Peter as making an important point. When it comes to brute physical strength, men are generally stronger and bigger. Simply put, men are generally physically stronger than women.

What’s really shocking about this verse isn’t that Peter says that men are physically stronger. It’s that Peter says that wives should be treated with “honor as coheirs of the grace of life.” In a culture in which women were often mistreated, Peter calls Christian husbands to see their wives as equal partners who deserve honor, care, and respect. In fact, Peter says that God might not hear our prayers if we don’t treat our wives properly.

Men: you probably enjoy a size and strength advantage compared to the women in your life, but you don’t enjoy a dignity advantage. Use your strength to honor women. God has given them dignity, and so should we.
