What Have We Learned?

In Daily Devotional by Jacques Van Dyk

Bible Verse: God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10

Scripture Reading: Acts 4:32-37

We have reached the end of a week, during which we discussed ways to be better caretakers of God’s Creation.

This week, we defined what it means to be stewards of God’s environment. We concluded that by taking care of God’s Creation, we honour Him, and we should not wait for Christ’s return to do so. Since the Kingdom of God is within us, we can lead by example and demonstrate how to care for the world to non-believers. Our actions should help us build God’s Kingdom even further.

We discussed obstacles that get in the way of us stewarding Creation well. It is essential that we don’t engage in partisan politics and that we avoid blaming environmental protection for economic downturn. We can find ways forward that are good for the environment and the economy.

As responsible individuals, we should be mindful of how our actions affect the planet and make the necessary changes to minimize our negative impact.

We realized that everything begins with education. Numerous valuable resources are accessible online that can help us educate ourselves and our loved ones. We were inspired to make environmental care a family project to steward God’s Creation for future generations.

We explored different strategies to enact positive change. Some methods we identified included becoming more vocal about our concerns, evaluating our spending habits, and actively opposing greed. Jesus urged us to resist conforming to societal norms, and as followers of God, we can prioritize caring for His Creation, seeking to unite in this effort.

Finally, we discussed why caring for Creation is crucial. As humans, we are made in God’s image; therefore, what is significant to God is also important to us. By caring for our surroundings, we follow God’s commandment and fulfill our duty towards our fellow human beings. As humble servants, we strive to take care of Creation, and those around us, and we seek God’s divine guidance by utilizing our unique talents and gifts.

Prayer: Dear Father, I pray that the devotionals read this week will continue to provide insight and inspiration to all men. I ask for Your blessings upon each one of them as they seek to live out Your Word and Your ways. Amen.

Reflection: Take a moment to reflect on three things you can do differently to help steward God’s Creation well.
