Theme of the Week: Spiritual Gifts

What does a successful church look like?
Paul gives us one picture in Ephesians 4. According to Paul, a successful church looks like a group of believers using their spiritual gifts. First, leaders use their gifts to equip people within the church. Then, individual believers work together by using their spiritual gifts. As a result, the entire church grows into unity and maturity.
What a great picture of a church that works right!
Church isn’t about what happens up front. It’s about what happens as all of God’s people show up to play the role that God designed for them to play within the church.
Every one of us can contribute to this. We can show up wanting to be equipped to use our gifts. We can also find ways to serve others, rather than just expecting to be served by others. We can do all of this from an attitude of love and an eye to God’s glory.
From my experience, this kind of service is contagious. One or two people who show up this way can influence an entire group of people to do the same. Soon, the feeling of the entire church can change.
We can’t be responsible for what others do, but we can play our role, and pray that as we serve others, they’ll be inspired to serve too.
And then the church will grow up with love. People will come into the church and realize that something’s different. God will use your life to bless others, and the entire church will grow strong as a result.
Pray for God to use your spiritual gifts! As he does, pray that this will help to shape a culture within the church of unity, maturity, and love. It’s how God works, and every single one of us can play a role.
Prayer: Lord, help me to play my role within the church. And help our church to grow in unity, maturity, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
