Who Are You?

In Daily Devotional by Brad Klassen

Bible Verse: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthian 5:16-21

Identity is a word we hear often in our world. Topics of self-identity, identity politics, identity theft, and others, are relatively easy to find.

But what is difficult to find is our true identity.

As men, we have many aspects of our lives that help build what we think our identity is or should be. Some of them are good. Some of them are not. Some of them we think are good but actually take away from who we really are.

In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul writes that in Christ, we are new creations.

That’s an interesting description. It has this idea that “we are who we are,” and then after we meet Christ, He can change us into who we really should be. That’s powerful!

And who is He wanting to change us into? Men who are more like Him.

Over the next few days, we will work through a few topics concerning identity, how these ideas shape us, and how to look at them in new ways so that we see more of Christ and less of us.

My prayer is that through this journey, you will be able to grab hold of more of what Jesus has for you so that you can be more of who He wants you to be.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You know who I am and have the power to help me be more of who You want me to be. Help me to hear You this week as I learn more about my identity in You. Amen.

Reflection: Make a list of the aspects of your life that define who you think you are. Hold on to this list for the rest of the week.
