Theme of the Week: How God Teaches Us Through Winning and Losing
Bible Verse: Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:23b
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:22-23 & Ephesians 2:10
Too often in my life, I sit and wait for God to bring me green lights, but in reality, He has already given me more than I recognize.
One day at the grocery store, my wife went in while the kids and I stayed in the van. As I looked around, I happened to see an older gentleman struggle to put his groceries in his car.
“Hey kids,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”
When I went over, he gratefully accepted my help. He then went on to tell me that recently his wife of many years had passed away and now he had to do this all by himself.
I had no idea.
In Ephesians 2:10, Paul writes that “we are his (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
And in Galatians 5:22-23, he lays out the fruit of the Spirit, saying that “against such things there is no law.”
That means that God has created opportunities for me to serve Him in my everyday life. And I’m not breaking any laws for smiles, kindness, words of encouragement, acts of service, patience, or any of the other ones.
Thank You that You are with me in both my green AND my red lights. Thank You that You knit me together and know me inside and out. Help me to trust You when I don’t understand. Help me to praise You when it is painful. Thank You that through You, there is so much more to look forward to. And thank You for Your grace and forgiveness that made it all possible.
Help me to see the everyday green lights that you have prepared for me. And give me the courage and faithfulness to walk in them.
In Your Name,
Reflection: Read Galatians 5:22-23 and Ephesians 2:10 and spend some time thinking about your everyday life and the green lights Jesus may have prepared in advance for you to do. Who knows, but you might just be creating green lights for those around you.
