Theme of the Week: How God Teaches Us Through Winning and Losing
Bible Verse: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13
Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:1-24
I hate hotdogs. Well, I don’t hate them. But I can only eat them when they are bar-b-qued and covered in anything that hides their taste (ketchup, BBQ sauce, chips). And my wife can attest to this.
My wife and I met in Bible college, and it took us the next 4 years to realize we liked each other. But we also had some help. One of our professors was a big influence in her seeing how cool I really am. Okay, so he didn’t use those words, but close.
Fast forward a bit, we are married, and find ourselves in the food court at the mall. With so many options to choose from, I had my regular items: burgers or Chinese food. But that day something happened. I had a craving for a hotdog.
This was no small desire, but rather an unstoppable hankering. You know. The kind that crazy people drive an hour to fulfill.
I told my wife about it.
“You want a what?” was her response. I couldn’t believe it myself that the words came out of my mouth.
But I followed the hankering and went to get a hotdog.
With my “food” ready, I picked up my tray, turned around, and just about dropped it as I saw someone. Yep, you guessed it: our college professor.
It was a huge delight to see him again. I brought him over to see my wife and we caught up and had some good laughs.
When our conversation was over, I ate my hotdog, and have never had a hankering like that since.
It’s funny how God made us. The psalmist writes that He “knit” us together. That is a very personal description. It means that He knows every detail about us. Our joys and sorrows, likes and dislikes. And sometimes He will use them in surprising ways.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You know me better than I know myself. Thank You that knit me together. Help me to know You better a little more today than I did yesterday. Amen.
Reflection: Read Psalm 139 and think about how God knit you together. Who knows, He may just use a hotdog (red light) to bless your day (green light)!
