An Antidote for Lack of Purpose

In Daily Devotional by Paul Jolicoeur

Bible Verse: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:11

When guys are young, they wonder what they will do when they grow up. They look at older men for mentorship.

As men grow older, they get into their careers and raise families. Life gets busy. This can sometimes lead to anxiety as we navigate the world we live in and the responsibilities we must carry.

Older men sometimes wonder if their life meant anything. Did they make the impact they had hoped for? They wonder what their legacy will be. Note for older men: it’s not too late. Don’t believe the lie that you are too old. God wants to use you in your church.

As Christian men, disciple-making should be our legacy.

You can’t do that as a lone ranger. You must engage in community.

Community allows you to get to know and learn from other men with different experiences, gifts, personalities, career paths, income streams, and perspectives.

Community allows you to share your experiences with others for their benefit.

Life is too short to make every mistake yourself. That is why we must learn from the mistakes of others.

Older men: some young guys just need someone to talk to. To help them make sense of life. Seek to be that man.

Prayer: Jesus, I know You have a plan and purpose for my life. Help me to be open to new opportunities. Help me to see the people in my life I can engage with so that we can encourage each other in our pursuit of You, Father. Amen.

Reflection: Who in your church can you reach out to? Invite them out for a coffee or breakfast.
