Theme of the Week: Salvation
Bible Verse: “The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ — if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.” Romans 8:16-17
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:12-39
I used to enjoy watching Steve Jobs give his keynote addresses for Apple. Near the end of his speeches, he’d often say, “One more thing,” before announcing a big new product.
We’ve looked at some of the things that salvation brings us: a brand-new start, forgiveness, and freedom from the power of sin. But there’s more! In fact, salvation gives us so many benefits that it’s hard to list them all.
Romans 8:16-17 lists just a few of the many blessings we can talk about. One is the Spirit’s reassurance that we are God’s children. God doesn’t just forgive us; he adopts us. One theologian writes that adoption is the highest privilege that the gospel gives us. Think about God loving you so much that he adopted you as his child.
Paul also mentions that we’re heirs. This means that we will inherit everything that belongs to God. It’s ours!
And this is just a sample of what God gives us when he saves us. Never think that salvation is only about being forgiven. That’s just the start. There’s so much more!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for all the blessings you give us when you save us. Help me to think about them and treasure them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection: What are some of the blessings of salvation that make you feel most grateful?
