Be Generous with Your Journey

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose

Bible Verse: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe.” Psalm 107:2

Scripture Reading: Psalm 107:1-9

One of the best tools in your toolbox for living a life of purpose is being able to take what you have learned and pass it along to others. It’s the story of your journey. The one that includes the good, the bad, and the ugly, not the sanitized, polished, filtered version. The real authentic one that makes Jesus the hero and you the one who needs to be rescued. People around you will resonate much more with your weakness than your strengths and successes, so be generous with your journey. It’s a part of your purpose.

I remember I had the opportunity to host a prolific author and speaker for a large conference event I was serving at. He randomly asked me, “Wouldn’t you like to know how your great-grandfather lived his everyday life? What his routine was, what his favorite things were, what he thought about his life and the future, and what he found beauty and joy in? But you probably don’t know because he didn’t think his life was remarkable enough to write these things down.” It’s not a criticism of my great-grandfather because 99% of people think that way.

But here’s the deal, if God has done something in your life, it’s worth passing along. If God has taught you something, it’s worth teaching someone else. If God has changed your life, it’s always worth sharing. Because if he can do it for you, He can do it for others.

Your life story is a powerful tool for living a life of purpose, so it’s important to take time to reflect on your journey with God and how He has worked in your life. Then, look for opportunities to serve by sharing your story with others. Remember that the story of your journey is worth telling and has the power to inspire and encourage others to live with purpose as well.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for being a part of my journey. Thank you for all you have done for me. Give me the courage and opportunity to share with others what you have done in my life and what you are teaching me.

Reflection: What are the parts of my story that would help other men live a life of purpose? What is God teaching me in this season? Who do I need to take time investing in?
