Live with Integrity

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose

Bible Verse: “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” Proverbs 10:9 NIV

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:22-26

In a world filled with moral compromises and ethical dilemmas, it is essential for men of faith who desire a life of purpose to cultivate a strong foundation of integrity. Without it, you can lose your purpose and delay, distract, or even detour God’s plan for your life.

How do we cultivate integrity in our lives?

Firstly, as we talked about it yesterday, we must be connected with Christ. But let me add another thought here. In John 15, Jesus talks about how people who are connected to the vine – meaning Himself, will bear much fruit. That fruit is listed in Galatians 5 and is in our Bible reading today.

I believe Paul the Apostle listed the fruit of the Spirit as a way of evaluating to see how well we are connected to Jesus. If we see these things being produced in our lives, our connection is strong. If these things aren’t being produced in our lives, we must have a connection problem. One important part of having integrity means you are constantly looking for the fruit of the Spirit in your life, ensuring you are connected to Jesus.

Secondly, being a man of integrity means you are doing your best to be trustworthy and credible. It means that you are a man that fulfills your commitments, takes your responsibilities seriously, and is honest in everything you do. It’s fair to say that we’d all agree that you can’t live a life of purpose without these things, or else you would lose your way and lack the staying power to see it through.

Lastly, take time to notice the areas you might feel tempted to violate your integrity. Make plans ahead of time to avoid those situations. Whether it’s financial, thought life, sexual purity, pride, or sin of any kind – you can create accountability and a plan that helps you pre-decide what you will choose, even before you are tempted.

The Bible says we are not to be unaware of the enemy’s schemes, so let’s prepare to protect our minds and hearts now for these future situations.

Prayer: Dear God, help me to be a godly man in every situation. Help me when I’m tempted to choose the right path that doesn’t violate my integrity and your will for my life. Forgive me for the times when I’ve made the wrong decisions. Thank you for your kindness that leads me to repentance. Help me see temptations that may be heading my way, so I can avoid them.

Reflection: Who in my life has permission to ask me hard questions about my integrity, and are they asking?
