The True MVP

Bible Verse: “So that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow…” Philippians 2:10 CSB

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:9-11 & Revelation 5:11-13

Happy Easter to you all! What better way to celebrate than to focus on our Saviour?

Few things in life are like the roar of the crowd when one of your favourite athletes does something big or when your team wins a championship. Some of my favourite moments have happened around sports.

Even if you are not a sports fan, there are people you are a fan of in life. You have likely talked about those people in various settings and maybe even had the opportunity to see some of them in person. As much as you might celebrate or be amazed by their skills, I am confident you have never gotten down on your knees because they are so good.

What is it about things like sports that make men scream and cheer at the top of their lungs while being silent and bored when it comes to their spiritual life?

I wonder if the core of the problem is this: we have too low of a view of Jesus and the work He has done and will do.

What is it about Jesus that will lead every single person to bow their knee in worship to Him one day? When myriads of angels say with a loud voice (yes, the Bible says “loud voice” – not silent) that Jesus is worthy to receive the honour (Revelation 5:12) – what do they know that we haven’t figured out yet?

If you have been a Christian for any length of time, you probably agree with everything I am saying.

But let me ask if your actions show that you believe Jesus truly is greater.

  • If someone gave you a ticket to see your favourite band, athlete, or leader – would you drop everything to go? Do you respond similarly when you can experience Christ at church each Sunday?
  • When you are at church (or even in private) – are you more vocal in worshiping Jesus than you are in celebrating the accomplishments of another human?

This week, we will talk about the Person and work of Jesus. In reality, we will never be able to capture all of who Jesus is in seven days. My challenge is that you would be willing to see how Jesus is much greater than your favourite athlete (or anyone else you celebrate).

Prayer:  God, help me see the glory of Jesus this week. Change my heart to respond to Him in a way that reflects His value as the King of all kings. Amen.

Reflection: Start a conversation with someone today about how amazing Jesus is. Consider this statement: Who or what you talk about most reflects what you love most.
